Crazy Man's Basement: There and Back
Graham Fons
Shepherd Express
Their name might imply a dark and sinister place, but CMB’s sound is just the opposite on their debut release, with a set of relaxed and roomy tunes. Lead singer Tom Klubertanz’s vocals recall groups like Sister Hazel or the Barenaked Ladies, which also speaks for the band’s overall pop-rock mentality, complete with metallically bright acoustic melodies, chiming vocal harmony, and syrupy lead fills by guitarist Andy Zietlow that invoke the distinct resonance of U2's the Edge. And need it be questioned that a near similar acronym was taken into mind with a major influence like the Dave Matthews Band (a group CMB often covers live)? With arrangements that become addictive through the cohesion, CMB is worth lending an ear.
